Eshu is a card deck designed for the card game Spades, a longstanding tradition of Black southern gatherings. Inspired by the Yoruba deity of the same name, Eshu is a bridge between the worlds of past and present, a joining point between generations, and a prideful display of African heritage.
METHODS
The woodblock prints used to produce Eshu were created using
Illustrator and a Gutenberg press. The entirety of the deck is
hand-printed, including the outer and inner box patterns.
